Working Structure With Fatalities !

On Friday January 20, 2012 at approximately 06:05 am the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Residential Working Fire at 309 E. Harrison Street in Cumberland. Engine 25-13 responded with 6 under the direction of Asst. Chief Steve Shipley. While enroute Allegany Communications advised there was entrapment at the residence. Command requested 25-13 to reverse lay from Truck 1 to the hyrdrant at Harrison Street and Park Street. Upon arrival the engine crew assisted on-scene with fire attack, search and rescue, and also filled air bottles. Command upgraded the incident to a 4th Alarm due to the intensity of the fire and fire spread
across a common attic of a 5 unit row-house. Unfortunately 2 victims perished in the fire despite valiant efforts by firefighters on scene to save the victims. The Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department would like to extend thoughts and prayers to the family of the victims during this difficult time. Crews operated on-scene for approximately 5 hours before returning in service.
Numerous Allegany and Garrett county units were on on the scene or on stand-by.

Working Structure In Frostburg !

On Friday January 20, 2012 at approximately 03:05 am the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Residential Working Fire on E. Main Street in Frostburg. Engine 25-13 responded with 5 under the direction of Asst. Chief Steve Shipley. Upon arrival to the scene the engine crew assisted in fire attack and overhaul, as well as shutting down utilities. Crews
operated for approximately 2 hours before returning.

Working Structure With Entrapment !

On Sunday December 11, 2011 the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Residential Working Fire with possible entrapment on Estelle Street in Cumberland. Engine 25-13 responded under the direction of Chief Rodney Twyman. Upon arrival to the scene heavy fire was found coming from the residence. Crews assisted with extinguishment and overhaul at the structure. Unfortunately 3 victims perished in the early morning fire. The Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department would like to extend prayers to the families and friends of those that persihed in the fire.

Commercial Working Fire At The Cumberland Airport !

On Tuesday December 6, 2011 the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Commercial Working Fire at the Cumberland Regional Airport. Once enroute Mineral County advised units that there were over 15 hangars and airplanes involved. Upon our arrival minor smoke was shown coming from the structure. The different hangars were opened up by the crews on scene, only to find that everything had burnt up in the structure and most of the fire was out except some minor spot fires in the hangars. The crew from the engine pulled the front bumper line and extinguished some hot spots. The West Virginia State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire with losses reported over $2.5 million dollars.

2 Alarm Commercial At FEMA !

On Monday December 5, 2011 the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Commercial 2 Alarm Fire at the FEMA Warehouse on PPG Road. Engine 25-13 responded under the direction of Chief Rodney Twyman. Upon arrival at the scene it was found that a motorhome was on fire inside the structure. Engine 25-13 staged behind Quint 8 and was used for supply during intial fire attack operations. Part of the crew from the engine assisted with checking the building for extension while the other part was assisting with ventilation. The FEMA Warehouse was approximately 150x60x80 making ventilation a challenging task with smoke from ceiling to floor in the majority of the structure. It was decided to cut the tops off vent shafts on the roof and pressurize the building to try and assist the smoke out that way. The crew from Engine 25 assisted Quint 8's crew on the roof opening the vent shafts. Once open the building was pressurized and smoke began its exit at a slow pace. An airboat was brought in and put at a bay door to the structure to assist in clearing the smoke a little faster. Crews were on scene for around 3 hours.

25 House Runs The Working Fire In Short Gap !

On Monday November 28, 2011 the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the residential working fire in Moreland's Trailer Court in Short Gap. Engine 25-13 responded under the direction of Chief Rodney Twyman. Upon arrival the crew from the engine assisted Short Gap with extinguishment and overhaul. The attack crew made a good initial knock on the fire saving most of the structure.

25 House Runs The 2 Alarm in Cumberland !

On Sunday November 13, 2011 the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the 2 Alarm Fire on North Lee Street in Cumberland. Engine 25-13 responded under the direction of Chief Rodney Twyman. Upon arrival the engine laid into the hydrant and positioned at the rear of the building to assist with fire attack. The crew from the engine utilized an 1 3/4'' attack line to assist during the firefighting operation. Part of the engine crew also assisted with RIT during the operation.

25 House Runs The Residential Working Structure in Carpendale !

On Thursday November 10th, 2011 at around 11pm the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the residential working fire on Buddy Lane in Carpendale. Engine 25-13, Engine 25-11, and Ambulance 25-70 responded within minutes of the alert. Once in the area, heavy fire was visible. Engine 25-13 secured their own water supply and began the initial attack on the single wide trailer. The rest of the assignment arrived and assisted with extinguishment and overhaul. Units were on-scene for approximately 2 hours before being placed in service. The firefighting operation was led by Chief Rodney Twyman (Command) and Assistant Chief Steve Shipley (Operations).

25 House Runs The Working Structures in The Ford !

On Saturday November 5th, 2011 the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Residential Working Structure Fire in Wiley Ford. Engine 25-13 responded with 7 and BLS 25-70 responded with 3. Upon arrival there was a single wide trailer fully involved. The crew from 25-13 pulled a 1 3/4 attack line off 27-11 and began extinguishing the fire along with another line being pulled by the crew from 27-11. The structure was vacant, with no electric to the structure. Crews were on scene for approximately 2 hours.

25 House Runs 5 Working Structures in 26 Hours!

The Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department ran a total of 5 working structure fires over a period of 26 hours. Beginning on November 1st and ending on November 3rd they included a double entrapment with fatality, The same structure twice, and an explosion. Below is the timeline of the calls as they occured.
Working House Fire 14609 Winchester Road Starts Busy Times at Station 25!
On November 1, 2011 at approximately 10pm the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Residential Working fire at 14609 Winchester Road in Cresaptown. Engine 25-13 responded under the direction of Chief Rodney Twyman. Quick knock was made of the fire by crews from the "The Big House" (Cresaptown Fire Department) and Engine 25-13 was requested to clear and stand-by at "The Big House" until they were able to get their engine in service. Shortly after clearing stand-by the engine crew was requested to respond to the Bel Air Apartments for an Automatic Alarm to assist Cresaptown. Units returned to quarters approximately a hour and a half after dispatch.
2 Alarm Fire 14802 Railroad Street with Double Entrapment!
On November 2, 2011 at 07:40am the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for a 2 Alarm Fire with double entrapment at 14802 Railroad Street in Midland. Engine 25-13 responded under the direction of Chief Rodney Twyman. Upon arrival at the scene the crew filled air bottles and assited with salvage and overhaul of the structure. Engine 25-13 was on-scene for approximately 3 hours. Unfortunately 2 victims perished during the early morning fire. The Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department would like to extended our prayers to everyone involved with this incident as well as the families' of the victims.

Working Fire 309 Covered Bridge Road in Flintstone!
After being back in station for approximately an hour from the 2 Alarm Fire in Midland, the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department ran their third working fire in 14 hours. At 12:41 Engine 25-13 responded to 309 Covered Bridge Road in Flintstone for a Residential Working Fire, with a crew of 8 under the direction of Chief Rodney Twyman. Upon arrival heavy fire was still present in the structure on the 2nd Floor. The engine crew met with Operations (Asst. Chief 43 Pyles) and then made entry into the structure to assist with fire attack. As the crew made their way to the 2nd floor, Bedford Road's crew was making entry through a 2nd story window. Both crews knocked fire down on the 2nd floor. The crew from the engine also assisted with salvage, overhaul, and filling air bottle during the incident. Engine 25-13 returned around 4pm almost 3 and a half hours after dispatch.

309 Covered Bridge Road off again !
On November 2, 2011 at 11:45pm the Ridgeley Fire Department was alerted for the Residential Working Fire at 309 Covered Bridge Road, same location as earlier in the day. Engine 25-13 responded with a crew of 7 under the direction of Asst. Chief Steve Shipley. Upon arrival at the scene the fire was knocked down and the engine crew assisted with overhaul and filled air bottles. Approximately 20 minutes after arriving the engine crew was sent to a gas explosion in Artemas, Pennsylvania

Gas Transmission Plant Explosion at 166 Crooked Run Road in Artemas, Pa !
On November 3, 2011 shortly after midnight the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was requested to respond to 166 Crooked Run Road at the Columbia Gas Transmission Plant for a gas explosion. The engine crew was still on the scene at the Covered Bridge Road fire in Flintstone and cleared with other units and responded. While enroute a large orange glow was seen over the ridge. Upon getting closer to the scene flames were visible and shooting approximately 200 feet in the air fed by a gas line. Several units staged at the Road Kill Cafe while Columbia Gas shut the plant down from another location. Crews waited approximately 5 hours for the gas to burn off so that they could make entrance into the plant and extinguish a building that caught on fire. Once on scene at the plant the crew from Engine 25-13 made interior attack on the structure along with crews from Flintstone and Hancock. Crews operated at the building fire for approximately 2 hours and were on scene of the entire incident for 8 hours befiore returning to Ridgeley. This call marked the 6th working fire in 26 hours for Station 25. Thanks goes out to all the dedicated men and women who assisted during these very busy 26 hours. In between everything else going on Ridgeley EMS was alerted for 2 calls and responded to those as well.

FLUE FIRE IN THE PIKE!

On Monday October 24, 2011 the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for a Flue Fire at 13600 Williams Road in Baltimore Pike. Engine 25-13 responded with a crew of 5. Upon arrival Engine 25-13 assisted with extinguishment of the fire. Crews were on scene for approximately an hour.

COMMERCIAL ALARM 8-3!

On Sunday October 23, 2011 around 09:00 the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted on Commercial Alarm 8-3 for smoke in a business on Milnor Avenue at Carl Belt. Engine 25-13 responded with a crew of 6 and at the request of command stood by at the hydrant during the incident. All units were placed in service shortly after arrival.

2nd ALARM IN WILEY FORD!

On Friday October 21, 2011 at approximately 16:00 hours the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the 2nd Alarm Fire on Seymour Road in Wiley Ford. Engine 25-13 responded with 6. Enroute command advised the structure was well off and requested the engine crew to assist with fire attack and also for the engine operator to relay pump into Engine 27-11 due to the fire being in an non-hydranted area. The engine crew assisted with fire attack, salvage, and overhaul. Ambulabce 25-70 responded with the engine and transported one patient to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Crews were on scene for approximately 2 hours before returning.

RESIDENTIAL WORKING STRUCTURE FIRE!

On Monday October 3, 2011 the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Residential Working Structure Fire at 12716 McMullen Highway in Bowling Green. Engine 25-13 responded with 5. Upon arrival, command requested the engine crew utilize Quint-Rescue 8 and vent the roof. Fire was contained to the attic area of the structure and units cleared after approximately an hour on scene.

APARTMENT FIRE IN CUMBERLAND!

On Tuesday July 26th, the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the working apartment fire at 106 Lefevre Road. Engine 25-13 responded with 6. Command requested the engine lay in at a hydrant close to the scene. The engine laid in at the hydrant at Fayette St and Mt Royal Ave and dropped approximately 800 feet of 5 inch to the scene to supply Cumberland's Truck. The crew from the engine then assisted with fire attack. Due to the size of the fire and the temperature outside, command requested the 2nd Alarm assignement. Ambulance 25-70 also responded with a BLS crew to Cumberland Headquarters for standby with 4. Crews returned in service nearly 5 hours after dispatch.

GARAGE FIRE IN SHAFT!

On Sunday June 19th the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the garage fire on Wall Street in Shaft. Engine 25-13 responded under the direction of Chief Rodney Twyman. One on scene the crew from the engine assisted with filling air bottles. Wall Street command then requested the engine and crew transfer to Station 17 for standby until they could get their units back in service.

Residential Working Structure!

On Friday May 6h, 2011 at approximately 5:45 pm the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Residential Working Fire on White Oak Lane in Short Gap. Engine 25-13 responded with 9 volunteers. Upon arrival of the engine it was determined to be a trailer that was fully involved. The structure had already had a roof collapse and Chief 34 (Metheny) had ordered a defensive operation. The engine crew assited with extinguishment and overhaul before returning in service.

Residential Working Structure!

On Tuesday May 3, 2011 at approximately 06:45 am the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Residential Working Fire at 106 E. Roberts Street in Cumberland. Engine 25-13 responded with 6 under the direction of Chief Rodney Twyman. The crew was sent to the second floor to pull the ceiling and finish knocking down the fire. The crew from the engine located heavy fire in the attic and knocked it down. Crews then finished overhauling the bedroom where the fire originated. The operator of the engine also filled 14 bottles on the scene. Crews were on the scene for approximately 2 hours before returning in service.

Fully Involved Structure!

On April 19th 2011 at 1815 hours the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for a house fire on Manteo Drive in Corriganville. Engine 25-13 responded with 7 volunteers under the direction of Chief Rodney Twyman. Enroute to the call Chief 5 (Dehaven) advised of a working fire and requested the tanker task force. The residence was a log cabin used as a camp and command advised it was fully involved, exterior attack only. Upon arrival the crew assisted in extinguishment and filled air bottles while on the scene. Units were on the scene for approximately 2 hours before returning in service.
